OSUN STATE RESIDENTS URGED TO TAKE PRECAUTIONS AGAINST DIPHTHERIA OUTBREAK
Osun State Primary Healthcare Development Board (OSPHCDB) has issued a call to parents and caregivers in Osun State, Nigeria, to ensure that their children receive the anti-diphtheria vaccine as part of the recommended childhood immunization schedule. This advisory follows the recent outbreak of diphtheria in Osun and other states across the country. Earlier this week, the governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, announced the activation of an emergency response center in response to the identification of a diphtheria case in Osogbo, the state capital. Tragically, a young boy succumbed to the infection. Dr. Oluwole Fabiyi, the Executive Secretary of OSPHCDB, emphasized that diphtheria is a serious bacterial infection that affects the nose, throat, and skin. It can be prevented through vaccination.
